For the record, The Spice Trail is open at 07:00 as listed on Zomato but it does not serve any of the breakfast items on its menu nor is it staffed by anyone who can speak English. I know this because, having dropped my sister off for an early morning meeting at the Radisson RED on the other side of the road, I gave in to my idli-vada cravings and found my way to this rather spartan mini-food court in B Block of Dtec, only to find that, an hour after officially “opening”, the restaurant was still only stretching and yawning. Sadly, all the other outlets were closed otherwise I would have walked away.

I spent the next few minutes trying to find something the boy behind the counter could understand – Anda – egg! Great! I’ll have an egg, any which way, and some bread and tea or coffee or water – just feed me. I got a masala omelette, no bread and some horrible packet ginger tea all for AED13. I did not have the time, patience or energy to ask where my bread was…let’s just get this over with. In all honesty, the omelette was actually quite good and had I not been so pissed off by then, I just might have enjoyed it.

I sincerely hope this review will deter other diners from attempting to eat breakfast at this place…or perhaps encourage the restaurant to either change their timings or their attitude.
