Fish King is a recently opened, authentic Chinese restaurant specialising in Schezwan cuisine. Located in the China Cluster of International City, Dubai’s unofficial China Town, it shares its name with another Chinese restaurant, this one in the Morocco cluster, which specialised in Cantonese cuisine (I use the past tense because it seems they have since closed). Owned and run by Rita Wang, a young banker turned entrepreneur-restaurateur, the restaurant’s interior has that meticulous woman’s touch, be it a slightly amateurish one (of a first-timer). As with many of the International City eateries, there are several private dining rooms complimenting the main dining area.

We let Rita order for us – Sauteed Beef in Hot Sauce, Fish Fillets in Hot Chilli Oil, Fried Shrimps in Hot Spicy Sauce and Chilli Fried Zucchini – common words to all – hot, chilli, spicy!

You get the picture. This is not a restaurant for the faint-hearted. My companions and I enjoyed each and every one of the dishes we were served but if I had to choose a favourite, it would be the fish fillets and the fried shrimps – both were amazing. It’s hard to comment objectively on service as Rita and her charming husband were personally looking after us. I’m sure the same hospitality is extended to everyone. So, if you like your Chinese food authentic and spicy – this is the place for you. 100% worth a visit.
