A burger joint needs to have a really big pickle to open an outlet right opposite Five Guys. Pickle or no pickle, the girls at SALT certainly think they have what it takes to go head-to-head with the big boys. And for what it’s worth, I think they do as well. Welcome to SALT’s newest branch on ground level of Dubai Marina Mall – dead opposite the peanut guys. Greeting diners at the entrance of the restaurant is the rump of their signature Airstream food truck – a brilliant design touch. The rest of the interior, although quite obviously C-19 compliant, still manages to incorporate elements from the beach (look up at the ceiling) where the SALT story began.

My food buddy Jack is a die-hard 5G’s fan. He and I ordered to share a single patty Original Slider, a Crispy Chicken and a single portion of fries. One of the things I like most about SALT burgers is that they come in pairs, making sharing (is caring) so much easier. Size wise they remind me of three bites and burp In-N-Out burgers. Visually and taste wise they are Mini-me Shake Shack burgers (right down to how they are served). I hadn’t tried their chicken burgers – nice, although Jack said he prefers Shake Shack’s (which I haven’t tried). But it’s their original slider which I really, really like – a lot.

I remember shudder-cringing every time my kids wanted to go to the original outlet on Kite Beach. I hated the long queue (who queues in Dubai?), the wait for food and the terrible, border-line rude service – all for what? I only started appreciating SALT after they started expanding and I was able to try their burgers without the ciaos, first at La Mer and then at the now closed Dubai Creek Harbour branch. More importantly, the quality of their service started shining through too, something which was abundantly evident at this new branch – good job. So, there you have it – SALT – the best sliders in Dubai Marina Mall and well worth a visit.
