Grillo, not to be mistaken for Griller Grill’O, is a Nando’s wannabe chain of fast-food restaurants which specialises in Fried Style Chicken Without Frying. I don’t know why that marketing slogan of theirs reminds me so much of a line from Bruce Lee’s Enter The Dragon – the art of fighting without fighting:
Anyway, their claim of being “The Only Fast Food Chain Offering Guilt Free Healthy Food” is quite Trumpist in its accuracy, rival Griller Grill’O has the very same claim in addition to a very similar name. All that, however, should not distract from the fact that Grillo serves some of best grilled/fried chicken in town. In fact, it won our recent roast chicken challenge.
Food buddy and full time member of Feed Me!, Soheil, ordered half a Peri Peri chicken to enter in the said challenge. It arrived smothered in what they call Wild Mild sauce; no guessing how spicy that was – try zero, but I’ll give it ten out of ten for taste. The Grillo chicken itself was perfectly cooked, nice and juicy on the inside without any sign of being undercooked around the bone. I’d like to taste the chicken on its own to see if it tastes any good without the sauce. But as things stand this is very much a case of the copycat being better than the original. If I were Nando’s, I’d take interest in these guys. As for us, the dining public, it’s happy days for grilled and fried chicken lovers with Grillo… Fried Style Chicken Without Frying.
