Vasai Local is a small little restaurant in Karama which specialises in authentic Maharashtrian (or Marathi) cuisine. Located next door to Lucknowee in the Wasl Quartz building behind Ramee Royal Hotel in Al Karama, its cheerful interior could have been designed by Ariel from Disney’s Little Mermaid – there are references to the sea everywhere – a reminder to those who enter that this is a seafood restaurant.

The food is excellent, the closest to home cooked that I have had in a while. Start with the Bombil Rava Fry (Bombay Ducks) – it’s insane. Also good to start with is the Tandoori Pomfret which, when drizzled with a few drops of lime, is heavenly.

For your main, I strongly recommend the prawn curry. It’s called Kolbi Batatcha Ambat and it’s just as good with rice as it is with bhakri.
To drink try their delicious Solkadhi. These are just some of the amazing dishes/drinks on their menu.
Service is friendly, fast and infinitely accommodating. There are very few restaurants like this in Dubai – worth a detour.
