CÉ LA VI is a swanky bar and restaurant on the 54th floor of the Address Sky View in Downtown Dubai. When you’re that high up, the focal point is always going to be the view. So, it comes as no surprise that the restaurant has a wrap-around glass display of Downtown Dubai in all its glory – centrefold being the magnificent Burj Khalifa. There’s a dining veranda which runs around the restaurant; no doubt the place to be when the weather gets cooler. Being a bar, smoking is permitted but thankfully, there is no shisha (it’s not that kind of a venue).
Spectacular view! Handsome interior
My extended family and I were there for brunch which, at roughly AED500 for the house beverage alcoholic package, isn’t cheap. Although we were someone’s guests, we came with grand expectations. The ambiance and service were superb, befitting such a venue but the food left MUCH to be desired. Served a la carte style as has become the post lockdown norm, some dishes, like the braised beef brisket and blacked cod showed sparks of promise but the I found the rest simply uninspiring. Thankfully, nothing was unpalatable. Especially the delicious dessert platter.
One of two delicious salads (but I get salad at home) Tempura This homemade looking salad had a yummy Asian dressing Over spiced ribs were perfectly cooked Risotto was overcooked but delicious. It was served with the spoon IN. Excellent dessert platter was the highlight of our meal.
The young lady assigned to look after us did a splendid job. I have nothing but praise for her, especially as she coped with our cluster of tables which got rowdier and more demanding with each emptied glass. Did we have fun? Yes, but give anyone that amount of booze and surround them with friends and family, and they’re bound to have fun. The question should be, did we enjoy our meal? The answer I got back from whoever in our group I asked (including myself) was, no. This is especially so when one considers that for the same money one can go to Bubbalicious, Maya Mexican Kitchen and the daddy of them all – Saffron.
