Delhi Darbar is one of my favourite Indian restaurants in Dubai. And now, having visited their fourth branch (out of four) in Al Ras, I can safely say my sentiments apply across the board. This branch must be one of the first to open. Compared to the newer branches in JLT and Barsha, it looks tired but not run down. In fact, for some funny reason, I found its rather drab interior very nostalgic, yesteryear Dubai even. That said, I was quietly happy to have been ordering a takeaway.
This is how we picked up the food Well packed and travel-worthy
There are a few things Delhi Darbar does better than anyone on this plant. The first is Dabba Gosht. The problem is, for some unfathomable reason, they don’t make it every day. I was just lucky it was available on “my” day (I should have wished for a million dollars that day). The other thing they do better than anyone else (in Dubai at least) is their super thin Romali Roti. I cannot think of anything yummier than dabba gosht and romali roti…with maybe a little daal on the side. As we already had daal waiting at home, the only thing I added to this was their delicious Chicken Tikka, which comes with one of the best green chutneys and rita around. The only other thing I should have ordered but, in the interests of keeping my bulge under control, didn’t, was a Mutton Biryani – another dish these guys are masters of.
Raita Romali Roti Chutney (for the Tikka) And the famous Dabba Gosht Chicken Tikka
The fact that Delhi Darbar has been around for so many years hasn’t, thankfully, dulled the amazing food which comes out of their kitchens. It is still as awesome today as it was when my friend and food buddy, Abhay Nadkarni (no, not the comedian), first introduced the franchise to me years and years ago. Over the years I have developed an affinity to several other Indian restaurants in Dubai, but I always come back to Delhi Darbar. The food here is so good, it’s worth a detour.
