This may be the 10th Puranmal I am writing about. It’s special because it gave me as much pleasure as the first one I visited next door to the Sunrise Supermarket on 4th Street in Oud Metha many, many years ago. Special how/why? Because it was the first outlet I visited after lockdown (actually, it may have been during lockdown). Strategically located at the entrance of the Lulu’s Hypermarket food court in Barsha, it looks like it’s killed dead the business of a regular chaat/dosa haunt of ours – Bombay Chowpatty – once the most popular venue there.
I ordered (for take away only at the time) all the usual yummies I had been missing; from pani puri-bhel puri to idli-vada and finally a dahi vada to cool down with. I’ll be honest, they may not have been the best but after three months of not having any, my family and I went through everything as desperately as someone who had just crossed the desert and was given water for the first time. Service was equally good…or was it the human contact after so long? If you are at, or in, the vicinity of Lulu’s in Barsha, this little food court is definitely worth a visit. Now whether you visit Bombay Chowpatty or Puranmal is a matter of personal preference.
