Vasanta Bhavan is one in a long list of South Indian restaurants with the Bhavan suffix; other notables being Saravana, Ananda and Sivestar. This Karama branch on Street 15A, opposite thali masters Rajdhani, is the second in their chain of maybe six restaurants I have visited; the other being in Al Nahda around two years ago….BC-19 (Before Covid-19) when we were a footloose and fancy-free society. I remember the Al Nahda branch being “simple, presentable and most importantly, clean and cool” – the same applies to this Karama branch.
I was here for an early morning breakfast, my first after lockdown. By default, I started with an idli-vada dip followed by a masala dosa and filter coffee. I don’t know if it was simply because I hadn’t had this, my favourite breakfast, served hot from the kitchen for so many months or if the food was genuinely that good but – wow – I loved it. I chomped, slurped and burped my way through whatever my amused waiter put in-front of me with such gusto, he kept coming back with glasses of hot water for me to wash everything down with – nice touch that. I will go back and/or try another branch for sure.
