Located next door to Sultan Baba Iskender on the first floor of Dubai Festival Plaza, this is Famous Dave’s third branch in Dubai. Thankfully, the interior at this new place is a lot less Disneyland hick as the original in Dubai Parks and Resorts albeit it’s still unmistakably Yankee Doodle. First things first, this is not the most suitable place for vegetarians, vegans or people on any form of a diet, especially Ketonians. This is a place for hungry carnivores. Believe me, you need to have a good appetite because portion sizes are humongous. If it’s an all-American barbeque you’re looking for, this is the definitely one of best places around – ribs and brisket galore.
Soheil and I started our meat-fest with Burnt Ends, cubes of charred beef brisket. If you are going to have either of what we followed on with, I do not recommend you start with anything, leave alone this delicious starter.
I ordered the Ultimate Brisket Burger with curly fries and creamy coleslaw while Soheil went for the Beef Short Ribs. The burger is insanely big and equally as delicious. It’s one of those burgers which has patty and bacon (beef) hanging out from the bun so you actually have to eat around them before you get to the burger. And to think they have something called The Philadelphia Monster which is like three times bigger than this bad boy.
Dave’s became famous because of its ribs and brisket so it was no surprise to find Soheil doing An American Werewolf in London on his order. What was surprising, however, was that for the first time in memory, he could not finish.
I kid you not, portion sizes are that ginormous. A slave to his sweet tooth, he couldn’t resist ordering dessert, the rather underwhelming and disappointing Double Chocolate Skillet…which neither of us could take more than a few bites anyway. When asked if you want dessert, remember Amy Winehouse’s Rehab and say No! No! No!
Excellent service was provided by a young man named Hamza. Worth a detour.
