This new Wagamama at the Waitrose complex in Motor City was one of the first outlets my daughter and I visited after lockdown ended. Its interior is immediately recognizable as Wagamama – modern, trendy and spotlessly clean.
My daughter and I have been ordering exactly the same thing at Wagamama for the past 15 years – Edamame, Ebi Katsu and Ramen. Hers: broth, udon noodles and chicken – nothing else – mine: chilli chicken ramen with extra chilli on the side. Whilst I love coming to Wagamama with my daughter, I don’t enjoy the food any more. It’s the same with PF Chang. And to think, I used to love both these franchises. Two things have happened, a) my pallet has changed/evolved and b) there more authentic options available in Dubai today than at any time – I prefer something more authentic…
Yasmin, however, is still probably one of Wagamama’s biggest fans. She loved the food at this new outlet and has made me promise to bring her back on another one of our daddy-daughter outings. The highlight of our visit was the outstanding service. Our table was attended to by the first waitress I have seen to have a hijab (veil) integrated into her uniform – I commend Wagamama (and their local franchise owners) for allowing, encouraging and supporting such diversity and equality.
Wagamama Motor City is well worth a visit.
