The Bistro is the all-day dining restaurant at the Excelsior Hotel Downtown (formerly the Holiday Inn). It’s where I joined one of the hotel guests for breakfast. Located on the top floor, its interior is presentable, but its low ceiling prevented it from looking and feeling…grand. It could only have been a restaurant in a three- or four-star hotel to me. I’m told it specialises in Arabic/Middle Eastern food for lunch and dinner.
The unadventurous breakfast buffet was made up of a lot of shiny chafing dishes with eggs, beans, foul, etc. Thankfully there was a live egg station from where I ordered a well-made masala omelette. I’m off carbs so no toast. The cocktail sausages were singed around the edges and undercooked (but that didn’t stop me from having three) – why? There’s no escaping the budget look/feel of this place. Unless you are on a package which includes breakfast, I really wouldn’t recommend coming here. Located between Al Muraqqabat and Al Rigga roads this hotel/restaurant is in one of the culinary hubs of Dubai. It really shouldn’t be difficult finding somewhere to have an amazing breakfast.
