Petals is the all-day dining restaurant at the Rose Rayhaan By Rotana on Sheikh Zayed Road. Located on the first floor of the hotel, its simple, well-appointed interior is where we came to have breakfast (having not been allowed into the executive lounge because I was in shorts – really?). At AED85 per person, the Petals breakfast buffet is basic in comparison with some of the OOT buffets in Dubai but at least it has a live egg station, be it an understandably busy one. In addition to the international breakfast cliché – sausages, beans, mushrooms, hash browns, etc. the Petals buffet has an Indian section with fresh mini-idlis, parathas and potato bhaji.

The masala omelette I ordered took an age to arrive and for some reason included cheese – hello? I shouldn’t crib, the poor chef was overwhelmed with requests yet was singlehandedly trying to please everyone. Thank you, chef (see picture). Service is attentive and accommodating rather than friendly but that may be because we were there during the breakfast peak! All in all, if you have breakfast included in your hotel package, fine. But if you are budgeting AED85 for breakfast, there are many, many better options available on the Sheik Zayed strip.
