Eat & Meat – Trade Center Area

Eat & Meat is the all-day dining restaurant at the swanky H Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road. Although tastefully designed (like the rest of the hotel) its much smaller than I expected and may be a disappointment to those accustomed to Dubai’s lavish, OTT, Las Vegas style mega buffets. That said, it is perfectly suited for the quiet breakfast business meeting I was there for. Service is more on the professional side than on the friendly; I really needed to stretch my smile from ear to ear to get a response from the pretty Asian waitress. Perhaps I was trying too much and she simply thought I was mad.

The buffet covers most of what one could ask for, split between hot and cold sections, breads and cereals, etc. There are dedicated sections for Arabic, Indian and Chinese favourites. Of course, there is also a live egg station from where I ordered my customary masala omelette. The chef manning the station took me quite literally when I asked him to make it spicy and I still have scars from the blisters on my lips to show for it (I’m kidding about the scars). Stand outs for me were the assortment of honey (which I love in the morning) and the limited but delicious dim dum.

This is not a venue I will visit again unless invited; even then, I will first suggest going around the corner to the Sum Of Us. Eat & Meat is fine if you are staying at the hotel and have breakfast included in your package. Otherwise there’s simply too little on offer in comparison with what’s available on the Sheikh Zayed strip to warrant going there. So, although completely respectable I’d still consider other options.
