Daily Express is a chain of Pakistani restaurants famous for its value for money, all you can eat buffets. This branch in Cluster G, JLT bucks the trend by offering à la carte only and, you know what? I find it’s infinitely better. For starters, its interior is miles better than the previous two branches I visited in Barsha and Deira. And while not quite up there with Little Lahore (also in JLT) or Lal Qila Mumtaz (in Barsha) it easily outclasses the Darbars, Karachi and Pak, as well as Ravi and Al Ibrahimi Palace. Looking good is one thing, what does the food taste like?

My food buddies and I ordered the Chicken Peshawari, Mutton Handi (boneless), Fish Masala, Mutton Biryani, Daal Tarka, Zeera Rice, a couple of Rotis and a partridge in a pear tree. If you only know Daily through their buffets, you will not believe this is the same franchise, the food here is that much better. I cannot single out any one dish which was better than the other, all were exceptionally good, even the fish (which I don’t usually like as a curry). Alright, if I must pick one it would be the tangy Chicken Peshawari (which I’m told works equally well with mutton). After that feast, how (or why) we ordered Kheer and Gulab Jamun for dessert, I still don’t know but they were good nonetheless.

We were served by a respectful, peppy young man (see picture) who treated us like his uncles (two of us were certainly old enough to be). He helped us place our order, even suggesting we had ordered too much at one stage (the above order is the cut down version). He was attentive and accommodating. Full marks to Daily for service then.

Ambiance good, food good, service good – what more do you want? Daily, easily one of the best Pakistani restaurants in JLT and well worth a visit, take away or home delivery.
