Highway 311 Grills and Eatery is an interesting little restaurant in Cluster R of JLT which fancies itself as something of a specialist in Latin American cuisine, with a strong bias towards Peruvian. Located on promenade level (that’s lake level to you and me) its interior is colourful and cheerful in a casual, rustic sort of way. All that’s missing are a couple of brand-sponsored tequila-slushy and chilled-sangria machines. Otherwise, the ambience is spot on.
The first thing most people think of when asked about Peruvian food is Ceviche. I was there, however, to try Peru’s other national dish, Pollo a la Brasa, or blackened (rotisserie) chicken. Rotisserie chicken isn’t as easy as one thinks; most places overcook their birds. I was visiting Highway 311 on the back of meals at Clucker’s in Barsha and The Roost on Al Wasl, both of which make excellent rotisserie chicken. So, it’s a big credit to H311 that I found their chicken better than The Roost’s and almost (but not quite) as good as Clucker’s. I also loved the insanely good salsa which came with their complimentary nachos.

Service at H311 was the highlight of my meal. I appreciate it when supervisors and managers take the time to visit tables to see if their diners are happy, particularly when they look interested in the feedback one gives. The manager here turned out to be a really nice bloke. So was my server.
Now, one half of a chicken and some complimentary nachos are definitely not enough to represent their impressive menu but on the strength of these two items, I am looking forward to going back to try more, Ceviche this time for sure.
