Malabar Park is a small Indian restaurant in the England Cluster of International City serving predominantly Mangalorean cuisine. They also offer specialities from Kerala and from the North of India. The interior of this small eatery is simple and clean and partitioned to include a slightly claustrophobic family section.
My son and I were there to try their South Indian breakfast which to us means, Idli and Vada to start followed by a Dosa of some sort, in this case, a Masala Dosa. Although we asked for Idli-Vada dip, we got ours separate. Everything including the Sambar was tasty but room temperature at best, dampening (rather than spoiling) the experience.
Our smaller than usual Dosas were served after quite a wait. Mine was room temperature (again) and had gone slightly limp as opposed to my son’s which was hot and (relatively) crispy. The potato filling was good. So was the slightly runny coconut chutney.
Although this restaurant offers much more than the breakfast we had, it is all I can base my comments on. Whilst the food tasted good, I’m afraid the cold state in which it was brought to our table leaves me with no option but to mark it down. In fact, the only thing I had which was the right temperature was the Karak Chai.
The young men running the restaurant were friendly but is that enough? I think not. So, if you want a nice hot South Indian breakfast in International City, I recommend you seek out one of the many other restaurants in the neighbourhood.
