Nautilus is one of the best chippies I have visited in London. Easy to find on Fortune Green Road in West Hampstead, its cosy interior is instantly familiar, comfortable and nostalgically old-fashioned – the hallmarks of a small, family run business.
Greek owner, Lannis still runs the kitchen but don’t be surprised if he pops out to say hello and take your order.

You can have your fish battered and deep fried, classic British style or grilled with a sprinkling of Mediterranean herbs, Greek style.
I tried the classic fried fish while my wife had a generous portion of grilled Haddock. Both were equally delicious and hard to decide between. If on a diet go for the grilled fish, otherwise toss a coin.
And if, for whatever reason, you don’t eat fish yet end up at this affordable fish and chips restaurant, fret not as they also serve an excellent rotisserie chicken.

Service is genuinely friendly, homely and infinitely accommodating. Worth a detour.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.

Nautilus sounds great. Good fish and chips can be surprisingly difficult to find in London; I shall have to pay West Hampstead a visit.
Good for you. Be sure to ask for Lannis; he’s quite a character. Also, consider their as-good-as-fried grilled fish. Do let me know if you come across a good chippie, I’m back in London in October.
absoloutely agree nautilus is excellent. Always leave feeling happily full. :))
