Pad Thai is a small, mini-food court-based Thai restaurant on Al Seef Street in the older looking part of Al Seef. It has no connection whatsoever with Pai Thai in Madinat Jumeirah. Since opening a couple of weeks ago it has been able to accommodate diners at an outdoor communal dining area it shares with stablemates Vanellis and Al-Mangal. I don’t know what they’re going to do when sitting outside is no longer an option. I suppose they’ll revert to what Zomato has them listed as, delivery only. But in the evening still, dining with the mesmerising Dubai Creek just feet away from you…is just beautiful.
The food at Pad Thai is, simply put, bland Thai food for tourists. Whilst that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it certainly doesn’t have the kick and zing of more authentic Thai restaurants such as Smiling BKK, or even mall-based, food-court specialists Ban Khun Mae. The dish their franchise is named after was surprisingly good. So was their red curry with beef. I appreciated that we were asked to what degree of chilli heat we wanted our food. That said, I found it unfortunate that they served us our meal in take away dishes – it made everything feel so ‘corporate’ and ‘franchised’.
Service was very friendly. Our food was cooked, at what is in effect a live cooking station, and served relatively quickly. The cooking station is fun to watch. Pad Thai is a good option to bring family and friends to providing provisions can be made for where to dine; bear in mind, there is limited indoor seating. For home deliveries, however, there’s a whole world out there to consider…
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
