The Grill Master Restaurant in al-Barsha South is a sheep in wolf’s clothing. Located on the corner of the Platinum One Building not far from Miracle Garden, its interior looks respectable and clean (although my table still had tell-tale signs of the previous meal) but that’s only because it’s new. Overall, it reminded me very much of those do-it-all restaurants you find on the fringe of labour camps.
Their menu is not reflective of what you are served, shabash to the talented photographer responsible for the pictures. Disappointed I was not able to have a South Indian breakfast at the nearby Wildberry Restaurant last week, I decided to try Grill Master, which has this beautiful picture of a Masala Dosa in its menu. I ordered a portion of Idlis before my Dosa. A portion at the Grill Master means a threesome of lumpy Idlis, thick as mud Sambar, and coconut chutney which tasted like a pre-mix. These were the worst Idlis and Sambar I have had ever – ever.
I had to wait a full 15-minutes for my Dosa. And that too, only after I threatened to leave the restaurant. What I got was one of those folded Dosas they prepared for delivery. This one was nice and soggy. Nightmare!
One might argue that it serves me right, going to a restaurant called the Grill Master and expecting a decent South Indian breakfast. In all fairness, the bulk of their menu shows pictures (thanks to that talented photographer) of kababs. Yeah, but if it’s on the menu, it needs to be good. And this wasn’t. Service was as good as their sambar – rubbish. So, where breakfast is concerned, I do not recommend this restaurant.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
