Its FB page describes it as ‘a contemporary urban tapas restaurant with flavours from the Mediterranean and Spain’, but I feel Cuisinero (pronounced ‘cuisine’ and ‘nero’) Uno offers more than a touch of Asian too. Brainchild of boy wonder, Chef John Buenaventura, Cuisinero Uno is very much of a reflection of his colourful, fun-loving spirit.
And you see this across every inch of the bar-restaurant’s urban-cool interior, from the graffiti on the walls to the bar counter along the open kitchen – youthful, playful, and most importantly, fun.
Except for the Inca Corn Niblets, which for some unfathomable reason I keep ordering but hate (sorry John), everything else on the menu is simply unbelievable. Do not leave the restaurant without trying their DXB Short ribs, or the Skirt Steak, or the Beef Cheeks, or the…I really could go on and on. In fact, I will; also consider the Burnt Leeks and even the Spicy Noodles – they’re super! If you’re into cocktails, you’re in luck, this is one of the best places in Dubai. A quick look around and you’ll be in no doubt of their patronage to a certain Mr Jack Daniels. Try some of the JD based cocktails, or simply order a jug of Sangria – superb.
If there is one thing more delicious than their food, it is their service. It’s top, top, top notch – friendly, attentive and (for the most times) fast. I have been to Cuisinero Uno several times now, for lunch, dinner and for their crazy happy hour. Irrespective, it’s a fun, fun place and well worth a detour.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
