Matto is a home-grown Italian restaurant at The Oberoi in Business Bay. I am a big fan of Italian food yet for some unexplainable reason am extremely sceptical when it comes to Italian restaurants, especially the stereotypical ones with some reference to their dear Mammas, or those which use their own names like Antonio’s, Luciano’s, and Romario’s, all of which invariably have red and white checkered tablecloths… which drive me crazy!!!!! But funnily enough, crazy is what matto means in Italian (I’m having a Phoebe Buffay moment). Jokes aside, the interior of Matto is fresh, funky, and as far away from the Italian stereotype as possible. And I love it. I’m pretty sure you will too.
The food at Matto is among the best Italian I have had in Dubai. As ho-hum as this may sound, the pizza is a must have – try the Bufalina where the superior quality of their Buffalo Mozzarella really makes all the difference.
Their pasta is simply divine, but be forewarned, it may be a little too al dente for some. Italian al dente takes some getting used to, as the pasta sometimes seems firm and a little undercooked – it’s not. If you’re a seafoody person, try the Astice e Asparagi, lobster and asparagus – it’s unbelievable. So is the humble Carbonara. It’s all good, baba – really, really good.
Service is top notch, with super friendly, heavily accented, hand and arm waving Italian waiters enhancing the culinary experience to make this one of the best Italian restaurants in Dubai and well worth a detour.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
