There was a time when More stood for instantaneously recognisable (complements of those amazing ceiling-hanging tables), funky, avant-guard interiors, and a menu which was clever, bold and borderless. What happened?
The interior of this new More at Mercato Mall is…um, not nice at all. It’s like what’s happened to the pubs in the UK, where their hearts and souls have been handed over to a bunch of bean counters. So, they look okay from the outside, but they just don’t have any life and character on the inside. Sorry for being so harsh, but that sums up More at Mercato for me. And to think I used to love this brand.
It only got worse with the food; the Fish & Chips I ordered looked pretty on the wooden chopping board they served it on but was unacceptably saltless, utterly tasteless. The fact that I enjoyed my mushy peas more than my fish says it all. The friend I was with ordered their cheeseburger and seems to have enjoyed it.
Our server knew little about the menu, even less about the restaurant. So much so that, exasperated by her lack of knowledge, we cut out the chit-chat and placed our orders. I find this more of a problem than the glass her tag-partner broke as she tried to serve us water. A slip of the hand you can forgive. Poor product knowledge you can’t. In all fairness, the restaurant manager came to our table to apologise for the broken glass.
I was very disappointed with More. Although I am not their biggest fan, I would happily have gone to Paul on the other side of the mall rather than dine here. Or even to the usually brilliant Azkadenya upstairs. So, to the management of More I say this: Guys, I was a HUGE fan. My details are listed below; please call me when you find your mojo.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
