Qwerty is a smart, modern gastropub located in the lobby of the Media One Hotel in Dubai Media City. Its interior is really well done, a minimalist’s dream. The more I stayed there, the more the place grew on me. In addition to the amazing wall-hung pop-art illustrations, I loved Jean-Luc Cornec’s iconic telephone sheep. Kuddos to whoever designed this place. I could spend a lot of time in there.
But I was lured in to Qwerty by something completely different, the promise of a beer and a dram of single malt – absolutely free. This is what you get on boy’s night at Qwerty. I couldn’t stop grinning, still can’t. A bunch of pretty girls offering me free booze to go to a bar – thank you, God. And not just any single malt, this was Glenfiddich 18 – WooHoo! But typically, even after all that, I have to nag – happy hour at Qwerty is kinda short, from 17:00 to 19:00, and you only get the rubbish bottled beers, like Amstel Light and Budweiser. I suppose I should be too bothered when it’s buy one, get one free.
The culinary side of my brief escapade was limited to their unbelievable nachos. I know I should be getting so excited about nachos, but damn! these were possibly the best I nachos have had in Dubai – seriously.
Service was excellent too. These guys pamper you from the minute you walk in to the minute you walk out. Well done to them. I didn’t think much of the music, nor was there much of a crowd (perhaps that explains why they were giving away 18-year old scotch). But the ambiance, the service and (I’m going out on a limb here) the promise of good pub grub (I hear the chef is a Brit) will take me back for sure. I recommend you give it a try too.
