Chamas is fully licensed, authentic Brazilian Churrascaria restaurant in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road. An imposing churrasqueira barbeque grill greets guests from behind a thick glass as they walk in.
The restaurant is dim lit, and elegantly decorated, befitting a steakhouse of its kind. There’s also a bar, where smoking is permitted, for those who want to enjoy a drink before…or after their meal. Completing the ambiance is a talented resident band which plays mellow (and occasionally feisty) Latino favourites.
A team of butch Passadores (meat waiters) work the tables, offering choice slices from giant skewers of meat, chicken or whatever, straight off the churrasqueira – it doesn’t get much better than that. Vegetarians, pescetarians, pesco-vegetarian, etc. shouldn’t really be in here. This is a meat lovers paradise.
But if they do find themselves at Chamas, there’s a decent sized salad bar at the entrance which I assume is good.
Service is friendly, but we did feel the Passadores were a little slow coming back to the table for the repeats. My family and I are big fans of Texas De Brazil at MOE and of course made an immediate comparison, unanimously agreeing that the food and service there are better. Where Chamas claws back is in its ambiance, in no small part thanks to the band, and the fact that is it licensed. Red meat just tastes better when its washed down with red wine. Irrespective, Chamas is a wonderful venue for a meal, and well worth a visit.
