Shanghai Station is a Chindian (Indian-Chinese) restaurant in the Techno Hub building near Silicon Oasis Head Quarters in (duh) Silicon Oasis. It is the second incarnation of a restaurant of the same name in Oud Metha (currently under renovation). I ordered a home delivery and was super impressed all the way up to when we started eating. Not only was my order taken in a friendly, efficient manner but it was delivered right on schedule. The restaurant’s bubbly delivery man extended this friendliness, and was determined to show me to what lengths the restaurant goes to, to keep deliveries warm…and cool, e.g. the Papaya Salad is kept in a separate, cool compartment in their well-insulated delivery box – impressive stuff.
This attention to detail is evident in the menu and packaging. It reminds me of when the original Chin Chin was launched (over a decade now) – it too had the same clean-cut image, and meticulous attention to detail (not so anymore). The menu itself is short, sweet, and easy to read and understand. To broaden appeal, they’ve thrown in a couple of Asian favourites like Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng. The rest is a host of easily recognisable Chinese favourites like Kung Pao Chicken and American Chop Suey, both of which I ordered.
All this said I was not impressed with the food. The Spring Rolls were okay, and so was the Beef in Oyster Sauce but dear oh dear, the rest was way, way off the mark. In fact, the American Chop Suey was possibly the worst I have had – ever. The Hakka Noodles weren’t that good either.
So, as slick as the branding is, and as friendly as the staff are, I would consider The Monk before ordering Chindian from Silicone Oasis in the future.
