Whilst I am quite obviously NOT Little Red Riding Hood, I took the advice of fellow reviewer Big Bad Wolf and pulled into MERAAS’s latest extravaganza, the Last Exit on my way back from Abu Dhabi – Wow! It’s so cool. Billed by the organisers as a gourmet street food experience, the Last Exit is a collection of little and large food trucks gathered together in a well organised, evenly-spaced automotive themed park. In the middle of the park is a dining area.
The idea is that you pull up to whichever food truck you wish to order from; in my case the Burger Pit, order your food, take delivery and then go to the central dining area to eat.
The park is dotted with outdoor dining pockets as well but they’ll only start making sense when we’re over melt or burst into flames season.
Already some heavy weights have jumped on the band wagon, not least:
Starbucks
Poco Loco
Baja Fresh
Burger Pit
Big Smoke Burger
The Brass
Clinton St. Baking Company
Operation Falafel
The Hot Dog Stand
Urban Seafood
All Day mini-mart
I ordered from Burger Pit because it was the only franchise I had not eaten from and also because I know the franchise from the US. In my excitement I forgot specifically what burger I got but I think it was the British something or another. If this Burger Pit is an authentic franchise then they’ve still got a lot way to go – their burger wasn’t very good, nor were their fries. To their credit, they did smile a lot and turned my order out in like seven minutes.
Lucky are those who take Exit 1 on the E11 into Dubai. The Last Exit is yet another MERAAS one of a kind experiences. Well done, boys. As for the Burger Pit…I’ll leave that decision to you. Me? I’ll be busy trying all the other offerings…
