The Kilby Café in Discovery Gardens is a modern take on traditional Pakistani cuisine. The interior is definitely different from most Pakistani restaurants I have been to, looking a little like a mix between a fast food joint and a diner. But there’s ample seating and it’s clean and cool.
I have been there twice, both for the early morning breakfast. On this second occasion I ordered their Halwa Puri and Haleem, both of which were very good but too foo-foo hygienic and sterile to challenge next door neighbour, Haji Sahab. Kilby’s service is better though.
So is the overall ambiance. I’d be much more comfortable bringing my family here than to Haji Sahab’s; not that my family and I have anything against dining with RTA’s finest, who seem to enjoy congregating at Haji Sahab.
And should you need any help with ordering, look for young Ammar, his knowledge of everything on the menu is amazing. He is also a wonderful host and will pamper you from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave. He will also force you to have some tea after your meal, claiming it is the best in town. And you know, he’s not far off on that one.
