Double Like Burger & Lobster is a newish burger joint on Jumeirah Road. Located 3 doors down from one of my favourite Syrian “meat” restaurants, Mazaree Al Sham, its interior is…on the small size and pretty much same same as the other burger joints on the strip (that’s the Jumeirah strip). That said, its air-conditioned interior was welcoming and the spotlessly clean tables and floor highly appreciated (I look for such things). Our table was attended to by a bubbly, busy bee by the name of Dorothy who smiled through her eyes and looked after us like returning regulars. The truth is that we were there on recommendation of our food buddy @JustFoodDXB whose raving review of The Rib Burger had me drooling before I even got there.
A view from the street
Of course, we ordered The Rib along with a Lobster Roll and finally something called The Chunky. The Rib is a monster of a burger which incorporates a whole bone-in chunk of slow cooked spare rib…on top of a beef patty and caramelized onions and sauce and pickles – its insane. Let me be clear, this isn’t pulled meat either – it’s a full-on piece of short rib – hmm. The closest I have had to this was when Pickl. released (for a limited time) their brisket burger. Although not my personal favourite, it’s definitely a burger to experience. Perhaps because I associate my physique with its name, I quite liked the Chunky – two juicy meat patties layered with ooey-gooey melted cheese….in a potato bun (of course). If you like the Double ShackBurger, you will probably like The Chunky – it’s very similar (thankfully though, without the excessive salt).
The Rib in all its glory Bone out, cross-section of The Rib The Lobster Roll Insider the Lobster Roll (there’s not much in there) My favourite – The Chunky The next time I visit, I will ask for less mustard in my Chunky Burger
The Lobster Roll was as frustrating and disappointing as finding out the hot date you’ve brought home only wants to cuddle – like her, it promised much but delivered too little. Come on, Baba – fill that bun!!! I’ll tell you what delivered beyond expectations though – the McDonald’s style fries – yuuuummmmy! With fries this good they should seriously consider offering a range of fries-based sides like Ugly’s sensational Pao Pao Fries (I get goosebumps just thinking about them). So, is this just another burger joint with a novelty burger or one really worth visiting? Whilst it didn’t trouble my top five, it’s definitely one to try if you’re looking for something new. I’ll give it a solid 3½ from 5.
