Pulled is a trendy little, homegrown burger joint on Jumeirah Road. It specialises in burgers, sliders and wings yet, for some unfathomable reason, insists on calling its burgers sandwiches. I guess, when you’re owned by Shamsa Al Habtoor you can call a burger anything you very well please. The marketing blurb says that, in addition to founding Pulled, she also designed the menu. I suspect she had something to do with its funky interior as well.

My fellow food adventurer, Soheil (@soheil1uk) had picked Pulled for us to visit so he opened the batting with two portions of Chicken Wings to start, one with Jalapeno Mustard and the other with Black Pepper sauce. He then ordered two burgers, oh sorry – sandwiches – the first, What The Pluck (chicken) and the second Make’Shroom For Cheese (pulled beef). The wings were better than my last restaurant wings experience at Buffalo Wild Wings in MOE. I particularly liked the pepper sauce. The wings themselves had an unusual crispy outer texture, as if they had been fried in Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereal.
The pulled beef burger / sandwich / whatever was seriously good too and, in my opinion, gives hard core meat specialists like SMK a good for their money. What I liked most was that the sauce was not overpowering as it is with many such burgers; you could actually taste the meat, which obviously had been cooked low and slow and was cotton tender. The chicken was no less good. I particularly liked the thinly shredded coleslaw topping. It added crunch and zing of each bite. Surprise (in a good way) of the meal was the tongue-meltingly hot chilli sauce I was offered when I asked for hot sauce. Damn, it was good. Pulled should consider retailing this.

Soheil is a dessert fiend. Although we were stuffed, it didn’t stop him from ordering what they call Sticky Icky Monkey Bread to end our meal with. Note, this takes some time to prepare (they actually bake it fresh) but, believe me, it’s worth the wait…and the extra bulge. Our amazing waiter, Anthony, brought us a sampling of their ice creams to try while we waited. I’ll stick to the monkey bread thank you very much. Anthony was a caring host and looked after us attentively.

Both Soheil and I liked Pulled. I can see myself going back for a repeat meal some time soon. I’m sure my kids (19 and 24) will love it. Worth a visit….whatever your age.
