Giornotte is the all-day dining restaurant at the swanky Ritz-Carlton in Abu Dhabi. Located a level down from the lobby, the restaurant is Mediterranean in look, feel and the cuisine it serves, be it with a distinct Middle Eastern influence. Understandably breakfast is an elaborate affair with several live cooking stations offering everything from pancakes to eggs to noodles. In addition to the indoor seating area there’s an outdoor brick patio and a wooden deck overlooking the gardens – the perfect place to enjoy any meal at this time of year.

Being a Ritz-Carlton establishment, one expects the quality of food and service to be high. What really surprised me though was how exceptionally good the service was. An early bird, I was at Giornotte from (literally) when they opened at 06:30. I served myself a fresh pastry and some (still hot from the oven) croissants and settled outside with my mobile to read the news and catch up on stuff I shouldn’t have been on a Friday morning. A pleasant young waiter brought me my coffee and attended to me as if I was his long-lost uncle until my family joined a full three hours later. I can’t remember the last time I felt so special or pampered.
No comment This is my famous masala omelette This is what heaven looks like at 06:30 in the morning…
The team of chefs manning one of the egg stations were all Indian. When I asked them if they knew how to make a proper masala omelette, they seemed to take it upon themselves as a matter of national pride to make me the best masala omelette possible. Wow! It was amazing (my friends @thatplacedxb take note). In fact, everything was over and above what I expected. If you are in the area and fancy a hearty breakfast in a picturesque setting with superb service, then Giornotte is the place for you. Highly recommended.
