Thushani’s is an amazing authentic chain of Sri Lankan restaurants with a branch in Sharjah and this one in Discovery Gardens, Dubai. It’s somewhere I have ordered-in from on two occasions, and both times I have been completely blown away at a) how delicious the food has been and b) how spicy it is – OMG! But it’s an S&M kind of chilli hot which curry lovers’ relish. On the first occasion I ordered their Lamprais (pronounced “lumprise” NOT lump rice), which is a parcel of curry, rice and condiments such as sambal and fried boiled egg wrapped in banana leaf. I also ordered Chicken Curry, Dhal Curry and a side of buttered Roast Paan, a traditional Sri Lankan bread which looks like sliced toast, only a little thicker. Paan is the perfect way to eat curry as it soaks up the gravy.

I cannot tell you how amazing the Lamprais is. If you haven’t tried this dish, you really must. The chicken curry was brilliant too…and hellishly hot.

On the second occasion I ordered their sensational mutton curry, entering it against a host of other mutton curries at our Thursday foodies meet up. It won. Beware: Sri Lankan curries are like Thai curries – chilli HOT! I ordered all my curries mild and still spent much of my meal wiping the sweat off my bald head.

Of course, Thushani’s also serves all the usual Sri Lankan favourites from Kottu to Hoppers to Roti and an assortment of Paan. The restaurant manager is a friendly and infinitely accommodating gentleman named David who will assist you with your order if you’re a first timer to Sri Lankan food. This highly recommended restaurant is a genuine hidden gem and well worth a visit, take away or home delivery.
