Less than 24-hours left before my low sugar (low everything) diet starts and I find myself at the First Avenue Mall, opposite The Ribbon in Motor City with time to kill while @dubizzle.pro photographs my car in the parking lot downstairs. And this Krispy Kreme sign is like an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer tractor beam…pulling me in; I have no control. I step into this tiny little outlet to the left of Carrefour and – whoosh – I’m air washed with this amazing smell of caramel and chocolate and vanilla and coffee all mixed together. If heaven has a smell, this is how I imagine it – OMG! I am salivating before I reach the counter. The donut girl knows; she has seen that dazed look before. She smiles.

Eventually (this is after I looked over each and every donut in the display) I ordered a Lotus Caramelised Biscoff donut and a coffee and sat myself down in one of the fake leather armchairs, took my mask off and smiled. Then, ever so slowly, I began a ritual I have kept since childhood….bite, sip, bite, sip, bite, sip…pure and simple, unadulterated BLISS. And that, my friends, is all I have to say about that…
