My breakfast this morning at Al Ain Way in Studio City was hugely disappointed. I originally popped in the see if they serve breakfast a couple of days. This was just after I finished lunching at the Patiala House next door. To my surprise I was told that, not only did they serve breakfast, but they would also start serving dosas and vadas from the weekend. As pathetic as this may sound, there are few things which could have excited me more than hearing this news. And that’s how I ended up wasting the last morning before my (as close to) zero carb diet starts…
A view from the street
Al Ain Way looks and feels like a wayside cafeteria; you know, the type of place which caters to truck, bus and taxi drivers. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, I had one of the best breakfasts of my life at a similar place in Ras Al Khaimah just yesterday. What is strange is its location at the base of the Glitz 1 building in Dubai Studio City – hardly the neighbourhood to be catering to the AED1 Karak Chai crowd. And with that said, I shall put my nose back where it belongs.

I was first told they their dosa was not ready. Then I was told it would be ready in an hour. Desperate now to have one last dosa before my diet starts, I agreed to come back in an hour. Guess what? Nothing was ready an hour later. So, I sat there waiting…counting flies – there were no less than five flies and I named each of them – Sneezy, Bashful, Sleepy, Happy and Grumpy. Two soft plate sized Karnataka style set dosas finally arrived with a side of green chutney and a bowl of the worst sambar I have ever tasted. After one and a half hours of waiting, rather than a nice crispy masala dosa, this is what I was getting? Disappointed!!!!!

Based on this personal experience I can only assume that half the menu is a fabrication; at least the breakfast part is – I know that for a fact. Be wary of this and, whatever it is you’re looking for, consider other options. Believe me, there’re bound to be better.
