This was a pre-Corona restaurant visit:
The Garden Grille is what the Hilton Garden Inn calls its all-day dining restaurant…in the same way, I suppose, The Daily is for the Rove. I enjoyed a business breakfast at the Barsha hotel/restaurant near MOE on the last day of Gulfood 2020, just before the Corona outbreak got serious. Its interior carries through, more or less, the same design theme as the hotel lobby; substituting the Hilton’s customary five-star luxury with “Garden Inn” value for money (= budget) functionality. It reminded me of a Novotel rather than a Hilton.

At AED55 the breakfast buffet offered decent value and included a very popular live egg station. So popular that I didn’t order from it, not wanting to start my morning standing in line for an omelette. Instead, I opted for scrambled eggs from one of the many chafing dishes – it looked good but had that powdered egg taste I was hoping to avoid. The sausages, however, were so good I had seconds. The buffet, while nowhere as OTT as some others in Dubai, was one of the best I have been to at this price point.

Things have changed so much in the few weeks since I was there. I called the hotel this morning. They told me that the breakfast buffet has been stopped in favour of an à la carte room service breakfast (still at AED55). The restaurant still serves lunch and dinner (but not breakfast?), again only à la carte. Like Las Vegas, Dubai was so famous for its buffets. It’s sad to see them go…for now.
