I’m NOT supposed to have ice cream – NOT. But the Jelly Belly logo pulls me in like a tractor beam; even this discreet, miss-it-if-you’re-not-paying-attention branch in the old town section of Al Seef. The interior is the same as all the other branches – it’s an ice cream parlour – not a lot you can do with the interior…except to keep it clean and cool – which it is. The difference Jelly Belly makes is with its welcome – it’s a happy welcome. And then there is the smell – oh dear; I think this is what heaven must smell like.

I order my guilt and sugar free chocolate ice cream made from dates (or something to that effect; perhaps it’s sweetened with date syrup). I don’t know how they make something sugar free so delicious, but I can eat a whole tub of the stuff. My friends, oblivious to my diabetic (type 2) condition…and feelings, double and triple scoop flavour after flavour into cone and cup. This is a heavenly place. There is no way you can walk out without feeling like a kid – a happy kid. Jelly Belly is a happy place and well worth a detour.
