Stoke House is a family-friendly restaurant at the Trump International Golf Club in DAMAC Hills. An expansive ceiling to floor glass wall offers diners a panoramic view of the 500-acre golf course. The interior is golf smart and cosy and includes a full bar as well as a games room with a pool table. Of course, there are TV screens everywhere. Be in no doubt, this is a very special place – not as nice as our clubhouse at the Ranches but special, nonetheless. Happy hour runs from 4pm to 8pm everyday and includes Budweiser draft beer, house wine and spirits for just AED29 per pint/glass/shot.

The Stoke menu offers something for everyone, from wood-fired oven pizza to ribeye steak and fish and chips. The last time we were there my family and I tried a little of everything including a bowl of nachos followed by some fried calamari to start. Our daughter has started venturing outside her culinary safety zone and occasionally orders mushroom risotto but, funnily enough, only eats the risotto not the mushroom – she’s eighteen, going to uni soon but still finicky where her food is concerned. My son and I shared the Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng, neither of which were anything like the real thing. My wife ordered the Roasted Salmon and son’s girlfriend, the Margarita Pizza which she hardly touched. I’ll be honest, the food was okay – similar in fact to what we get at the Ranches Restaurant. But that’s why we dine at Maison Mathis and not the Club.

Our waiter was a jolly giant by the name of Prince. He amused our table with his quick wit yet was patient enough to talk the girls though their orders. Good guy. Look for him if you dine there. Entertainer vouchers were redeemable here last year but not anymore. Nor does Zomato Gold work in any form. That puts Stoke into expensive territory for non-members. Our bill with only two pints of draft and tip came to nearly AED600 – ouch! There are too many new restaurants now in the area for me to accept high prices and meh food quality, not least Maison Mathis, Irish Village and The Maine – all of which are only a few minutes’ drive.
I give this restaurant a Ravenous Rating of 3.5 from 5.0.
