Puranmal is an Indian sweets and savouries franchise with a whopping 23 branches in Dubai, including this new “shop-in-shop” concept INSIDE the West Zone Supermarket at the Lilac Residence in Al Jaddaf, Za’abeel. Located immediately on the right as you enter the store, the concept is basically order, stand and eat, or take away. Food is brought in daily from their central kitchen and warmed in a microwave; no frying or cooking takes place there.

That’s fine if you’re having Chaat or, as in my case, an easy to warm Idli-Vada for breakfast. In fact, I included chaat in my breakfast (yes, I am that sick). And by chaat, I mean Pani Puri which is made and served over the counter, as it should be, one-by-one by their super friendly chaatwala. My nuked idli-vada was surprisingly good, although the sambar could have done with a couple more seconds of warming.

I ate my breakfast at the small, afterthought of a counter on the left side of the island. Yeah, I suppose this would work for someone in a rush or for take away but for a proper meal, I would consider other options. The guys behind the counter were amazing – super-friendly.
