Mr. Miyagi’s has finally opened at the Studio One Hotel in Studio City and boy-o-boy is it a riot. Its wacky, almost cartoonish interior is built around a giant cherry tree in full blossom. The rest is a hodgepodge of Asian retro-bilia with an equally imposing bar on the entrance end which serves, among many, many other things, Asahi and San Miguel draft beer – yeay! Unlike the original in Media City, this new Miyagi has more of a bar feel to it than a restaurant. And this is reflected in the limited finger food menu one is handed along with the much bigger drinks menu.

The Thursday night we went, Miyagi’s was chock-a-block full. The four of us had to share a high-chair bench with another couple. The resident DJ already had everyone in a sing-song mood as he made his rounds with an iPad and microphone in full-on karaoke mode. What a fun night we had. Drinks and food are understandably expensive but realistically, you need to be sniffing something for this sort of a pick-me-up buzz. So, a double thumbs up from me for this new incarnation of Mr. Miyagi and happy days for the residents of Dubailand.
