The Chicken Shop is a chain of delivery only kitchens which specialise in grilled chicken. I was shocked to find that there are no less than seven branches spread across Dubai, this Studio City one included. I ordered two of their three flavours, Peri Peri and Mediterranean. The third flavour is Barbeque which I am not a big fan of. Each chicken half order comes with a side and a sauce. I chose the grilled vegetables and quinoa salad with the garlic and Peri Peri sauces.

For a business which revolves around deliveries, to over-shoot your promised delivery time by nearly half an hour is definitely a no no. Beyond that, three other things upset me, namely (1) the food arrived only lukewarm, (2) it was packed in non-recyclable polystyrene containers and (3) the half chicken, which I was charged a whooping AED 51 for, turned out to be uncannily similar in size to the scrawny little birds you get at Taza, with the difference that they charge AED 28 for a whole bird. So, were the chickens tasty at least? Let’s just say that they were no better than the rotisserie chicken you get at Spinney’s. I rest my case.
