Signature restaurant of Shangri-La Hotels worldwide, Shang Palace is an authentic, fine dining Chinese restaurant which specialises in Cantonese and provincial Chinese delicacies, including yum cha, the Cantonese tradition of brunch involving Chinese tea and dim sum. Its highly acclaimed Beijing Duck could possibly be the best in the UAE. That said, the appointment of new executive Chinese chef, Chunlin Xu has seen the introduction of a new menu with a strong focus on Shanghainese cuisine, highlighted with a live seafood option.

The food at Shang Palace is superb. I strongly recommend you try the Friday bunch. It will change your perception of dim sum. On all other days be sure to start with their world-famous Beijing Duck, it’s sensational and served with some fanfare. In addition to whatever you usually order, also consider the Cantonese-style golden garlic king prawns with dried chilli and/or the braised mixed seafood fried rice with lotus leaf both of which are amazing. And then you might want to consider the new menu’s live seafood option, where guests can choose from live lobster, crab, hamour or turbot and have them cooked to your personal preference. Everything I’ve had at this restaurant has been excellent.

As one would expect from a Shangri-La establishment, service at the Shang Palace is exceptional. I found the staff genuinely friendly and very attentive and the hotshot chefs from the kitchen happy to interact with diners. Located opposite the brilliant Hoi An on Level 1 of the Shangri-La Sheikh Zayed Road, the restaurant is handsomely decorated in traditional Chinese attire. It is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Dubai and without doubt well worth a visit.
