This outlet in City Walk 2 is Eggspectation’s second; the much loved first and original branch being at The Beach, JBR. Without the beachfront terrace and view, there is little resemblance between the two siblings. The interior of this latest incarnation is decorated in the Euro-café style which is all the fashion these days; take the brand away and you will be hard pressed to tell the difference between it, Tom&Serg, Pantry, Clinton Street, etc. That said, I found it to be a happy, handsome, comfortable place to spend my early morning. The outside seating area is not going to be around for long which will put a little strain on the limited indoor seating area.
Eggspectation is one of a growing number of places where you can have an excellent western breakfast. Eggs (of course), French toast, waffles, you name it, they serve it and then some. The quality of the food is very good and so is the coffee. Some places serve what they call gourmet coffee which is downright sour. And some people love this, drinking shot after shot throughout their meal. You’ll get a good cup of coffee at Eggspectation. Their French toast is also very good. On this occasion I had it with perfectly done scrambled eggs. Other times I have either had an omelette or poached eggs, both of which they do very well also.

Service is eggcellent (why do I always do that?). We were greeted with a smile and sweetly coaxed into eating inside (because the outside area was full) by one of their lovely hostesses before being handed over to our bouncy waiter. What an amazing guy. He really brightened our dining experience with his natural charm and high-octane energy. I’ve forgotten his name but thankfully have a picture.

Eggspectation City Walk is good, certainly worth a visit but without the view of the original it’s as if it doesn’t have that laid-back, beach-front character. It’s just another really good café-restaurant in City Walk.
