Before I start, allow me to confirm that I am a heterosexual bloke, be it an aging, balding one, who loves his wife to the extent that he will accompany her to events which may, to some, be looked upon as less than manly…like the ladies night at Oeno, a bar at the The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi – phew. Now that we’ve got that straight, I can begin my first ladies night review.

Oeno is a wine bar famous for its impressive selection of international wines. Not that I care, I’m too uncouth to drink the stuff. But this high-ceilinged, two-tiered bar-restaurant also has a dedicated cheese room which is definitely something a chuchter like me can appreciate. I love cheese. All this comes into play on their hugely popular Tuesday ladies night. Ladies pay AED60 for unlimited house drinks and nibbles. The nibbles, which are served in the cheese room, are basically a selection of cheese (stilton, brie, etc.), some piggy-wiggie cold cuts, bread and grapes. Not bad for AED60. There’s a wine station opposite the cheese room which serves a selection of white, red and fizzy wines in ridiculous pink flutes.
Guys can enjoy the nibbles for the same AED60 but have to pay separately for their booze. I’m told happy hour runs from 17:00 to 22:00 but for some reason this did not apply to my AED50 pint of Hoegaarden which I ordered well before 22:00.
We arrived just as this two-man band launched into possibly the worst version of Guns N’ Roses Sweet Child O’ Mine I have heard. My wife had promised me excellent music and women in slutty outfits but if the music wasn’t bad enough, the table in-front of us was celebrating a sweet dear’s 80th birthday and looked like a granny’s night out. Thankfully the DJ who came on next livened things up with some of the snappy tunes my wife had told me about. His music was like a shot of adrenalin to the whole place, particularly the old girls who came on to the dance floor and really went to town. I cannot remember the last time I had so much fun watching other people have fun.
I am told Oeno isn’t quite as lively on other nights of the week. Who cares when it’s so good on this one night? So yes, if you want to have a fun night out with the girls, or have a group of friends you want to have a giggly night out with but don’t want to break the bank, this is certainly an option to consider.
