I am told that the bowling alley at The 44 is the highest in the world, a believable fact coming from a trendy sports bar in the city of record-breaking and one-upmanship, Dubai. Located on, you guessed it, the 44th floor of the Hilton Dubai Al Habtoor City in Business Bay, The 44 also has pool tables, darts and um, a bar – two actually, there’s one on the terrace as well. Unless you are bowling, the noise generated from the two alleys can get annoying very quickly. Perhaps that’s why they play their music so loud (a perception which could also be attributed to my age).
My culinary encounters at The 44 have been limited to liquids and munchies like nachos. The all-important info here is that happy hour knocks 50% off house drinks every day from 4pm until 8pm, not bad considering the location. This is a popular bar and can get crowded and quite raunchy at times. For those who want to escape the noise, a simple walk out onto the expansive terrace, beautiful at the time of year (but melt to death within 90 seconds in the summer) solves that problem. Service is good when you’re inside but may need some arm waving theatrics to get the attention of a staff member when sitting outside. The 44, noisy, trendy, fun and well worth a visit.
