Chalco’s in JLT is one of my favourite places in Dubai to get authentic Mexican burritos and tacos. Well, Chalco’s is expanding; this Motor City branch, located in a yellow and green food truck style container outside the Apex Atrium (besides Oregano) is (I think) their fourth and newest branch. I physically visited this outlet the other day, finding it uncannily similar in concept to Taqado Mexican Kitchen’s food truck in Studio City…or any food truck for that matter.
I ordered an assortment of burritos to take home. Unfortunately, much as I enjoyed chit-chatting with their friendly staff, I was hugely disappointed with their food. My spicy pulled beef burrito (which should have been a pulled chicken burrito) was a soggy, dripping-wet mess by the time I got home and peeled open its foil wrapper (FYI, I live a short seven-minute drive from Motor City in Arabian Ranches). The other three burritos, while not soggy, were bland, tasteless and over-stuffed with rice.
I find this surprising as I have always been fond of Chalco’s burritos. Teething problems or complacency? We’ll know soon enough. For the time being though I will be ordering my burritos from the Taqado Mexican Kitchen food truck in Studio City.
