Don Corleone is an Italian restaurant at the (new, relocated) Metropolitan Hotel just off Exit 41 on Sheikh Zayed Road. It used to be a pretty decent place with a cosy, comfortable interior dotted with memorabilia from the Godfather movies and red and white chequered tablecloth for that stereotypical Italian effect. This new incarnation follows some of that mantra, but I feel much of its spirit and character was lost in the move.
We were there for their La Famiglia brunch which, at AED180 for the soft package, seemed like a good deal…until we actually experience it. In comparison with the brunch/buffet standards of Dubai today, the brunch at Don Corleone is disappointingly below average; everything from the pizzas to whatever was in the buffet chafing dishes seemed substandard or in need of a top up. The salad bar (at the entrance of the restaurant, really?) was eh-okay, leaving the overworked pasta station to salvage some pride – how sad. This is an Al Habtoor hotel and the Metropolitan to boot (to old-timers like me, the Metropolitan used to mean something). So, until they get their act together, I would consider other options…starting with their own, The Market at Habtoor City.
