Japang is a newly opened, Barsha based, delivery only restaurant specialising in Karaage (pronounced: kara-ah-geh), Japanese style fried chicken. The main difference between karaage and katsu, which I’m assuming most non-vegetarians have tried at some stage or another, is that katsu is made from sliced, breaded breast, while karaage is almost always made from dark meat marinated in soy (and sake) before frying; katsu is served with katsu curry sauce, while karaage is served with mayonnaise and lemon. The issue is that what Japang delivered to us the other night wasn’t anything like the karaage I’ve had so many times in Tokyo. In fact, it actually reminded me very much of katsu. Regardless, it was good and that’s what matters. But was it good enough to justify being double the price of fast food tenders? I’m not so sure. Their crispy fries are excellent though, better than most on the market, and a must order. Delivery is Speedy Gonzalez fast (this was the first time I got my food sooner than promised). Order was placed through my favourite, . Bottom line – worth a try.
