Clucker’s Wood Roasted Chicken is an amazing little rotisserie chicken specialist restaurant towards the al-Barsha end of Hessa Street. Based in the Sajaya Plaza building, its interior is a smart and trendy mix of café and upmarket fast food with two purposeful looking wood-fired ovens taking pride of place behind the main serving counter. And rightly so, because into those two ovens go fresh chicken, marinated in a unique concoction of herbs and spices, and out comes the most amazing rotisserie chicken I have had in a while.
Funny as its name is, Clucker’s is the labour of love of two Palestinian high school sweethearts, Bassam and Reem Silwady. Reem, whose kind, angelic smile reminded me so much of my sister, spent a few minutes explaining how Bassam actually designed the ovens specifically to their requirements. She also emphasized the importance of using the best fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients.

One bite of their famous chicken and you will understand exactly what she means. More than just delicious, their chicken is juicy and tender, especially the hard to keep moist, chicken breast. I tried newly opened Roost Rotisserie on Al Wasl Road some weeks ago and, although I enjoyed their chicken too, I must admit Clucker’s was better…because of the moistness of their chicken breast.
Clucker’s chicken is served with three sauces; a tangy tamarind, a spicy tomato and a full on, can’t kiss my date tonight garlic. You also get a lovely green salad with a beautifully balanced sauce (which won’t sour your jaws shut like some other, over-sour salad sauces). And to top it all off, compliments of the house, you get a hearty chicken and barley soup to start your meal.
The staff at Clucker’s are a happy, friendly bunch, accommodating and attentive. I really enjoyed my meal at Clucker’s and feel it compliments the low carb diet I am trying to follow. It’s healthy too. So, if you like rotisserie chicken, this is a must visit restaurant.
