The Little Thai is, as its name accurately implies, a little Thai restaurant…in Hampstead. Located a minutes’ walk from the Royal Free, not far from the picturesque Garden Gate pub, the restaurant is hard to miss. We, however, ordered a home delivery.
Visiting from Dubai where there are a number of authentic Thai restaurants, I found the food from The Little Thai mild (which is a polite way of saying bland) and sweet, with absolutely no kick or tang to it. Our Tom Kha soup, for example, was so sweet it tasted like a dessert. And the Laksa, which was thoughtfully delivered in two separate containers, one with the noodles and condiments and the other with the soup, was only slightly better. What saved the day (only just) was the Yam Woonsen, warm spicy (not) glass noodle salad.
This is obviously a restaurant which has toned down the fire and fury of Thai cuisine to suit the Hampstead pallet, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I’ll just have to find a Thai restaurant which serves a little more zing. Buzz me if you know of one.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.

Thai Square on Upper Street in Islington recently re-opened and I had a fantastic meal there a few weeks ago. Its newly-renovated interior is a thing of beauty.
