The Fish Hut is an amazing, newly-opened seafood restaurant in Barsha. This is the second of two branches, the first being in Oud Metha. I can’t believe it’s already three years since I first visited the original on street 8, behind Lamcy Plaza. I can remember how impressed I was then. And it’s the same all over again with this new, bigger restaurant. Same concept too. Basically, you can either choose your seafood (fish, shrimp, crab, squid, etc.) from water tanks or ice displays. Your next choice is how you want your meal cooked – pan fried, char-grilled or deep fried. You can also have it curried, South Indian style. Of course, one can also order à la carte.
On this occasion we chose a plump squid from the ice display, asking for it to be battered and fried. Followed by a medium sized pomfret, which we asked to be char-grilled. I’m happy to say these boys have not lost any of their masterful touch, our Pomfret was served beautifully filleted in two, perfectly cooked and topped, one with lemon-garlic and the other with lemon-thyme sauce – exquisite. I cannot begin to tell you how delicious it was. So much so that neither of us needed to add a drop of either fresh lemon or the garlic sauce which comes with the fish to our meal – it was excellent. What I have saved to have on my next visit is their brilliant Prawns Mango Curry (worth a thought before you order).
The Fish Hut has obviously done research into the demography of the Barsha area and knows there is a large local community living there. With them no doubt in mind, they have a staff member outside to take drive-by orders. Sweating profusely from the midday heat, the poor chap also helped us park. Service, in general, is very friendly, accommodating and fast.
Prices are reasonable when you consider the quality of food you are getting; our meal for two cost just under AED200 (Hamour instead of Pomfret would have cost about the same). Highly recommended for lovers of seafood.
Waste NOT. Want NOT.
